Man, despite several no-shows and a couple of weak performances, I really had a great time at this event. All of the main event battles delivered really hard on both sides and I saw some of these guy’s best performances yet. The atmosphere was really fun and like always, the crowd was really cool down here at GTNW. They usually are really open to laughing at lots of shit, but they don’t overdo it like the KOTD crowd, making for a fairly even mix of cheers.

Despite my opponent, Chase Moore, having to cancel from coming, I still decided I wanted to at least go down to the show to watch and support, as well as potentially freestyle battle. I rolled through with 2 of my homebwahs from Seattle and showed up fashionably late to the event.
The first battle was Haterec Vs. M-80. M-80 is making his official Grind Time debut after having a solid showing in his tryout battle earlier last month where he freestyled impressively for 2 rounds before reciting a verse in his 3rd. Haterec has already battled in GTNW a couple of times and had some really good showings as far as I’m concerned. His only glaring flaw is that he fucks up in his verses sometimes, and as someone who never does that shit, I really frown upon it. The good news is that he only had one minor slipup (repeating a word he mispronounced early on, I believe) and after that he came flawlessly and had tons of style and complex schemes in his verse. The bad news is that the footage was damaged beyond fixing due to Avocado accidentally crushing it in his hand doing curls. At least that’s what I imagine is responsible for the footage becoming trash, which unfortunately is in fact not a joke. M-80 wound up fucking up in all 3 rounds in typical… uh, MicPhenom fashion, so it was an easy win for Haterec, who walked home $200 richer.
K.I. Design Vs. Mr. Mr. was another good battle, which I thought was one of the closest matches of the night. I personally thought it came down to who’s delivery was hitting hardest which made me give the nod to K.I. Design as his incredibly commanding presence overcame Mr. Mr.’s lyrics, which I personally liked better than K.I.’s. Both are really fresh in my eyes, both for very different reasons, and I’m glad they’re in the division. K.I. wound up taking the victory.
Even though my opponent couldn’t make it, I decided I wanted to do another freestyle battle with my buddy Everybody Knows, which wound up being really fun. This time, we took on Reverse Live & Mic Phenom, who are both more than capable of delivering solid performances on short notice. It wound up not being judged for some reason, but both sides put up some great performances, making it a pretty even battle. There were lots of freestyles involved, and of course the occasional flips, bruv.
Tantrum Vs. H-Bomb was a really great battle, as one might expect, and both of these guys had me laughing. Tantrum came with his usual aggressive delivery, which definitely surprised H-Bomb. H-Bomb came with his usual performance, very solid with lots of hilarious lines. In the end, Tantrum wound up taking it in 3, but by no means was the battle a blowout.
Pariah Vs. Everybody Knows was definitely E.K.’s best performance, but Pariah certainly held it down and came with a super polished showing like he always does. I think in the end it came down to who was funnier as that’s usually what gets the NW crowd cheering (duh) and Everybody Knows seemed to be doing more of that. He went on to deliver his lines without fucking up once, to my recollection, and definitely outperformed the past versions of himself by winning in 3. Unfortunately, Armocado apparently didn’t learn his lesson from before and this footage was also ruined beyond fixing. I am really, really bummed about this as both guys did really well and I can only imagine how shitty they must feel. If anyone in the crowd had a 2nd camera rolling, please contact myself, Avocado or Illmaculate immediately.
9DM Vs. Reverse Live, the headlining event, definitely lived up to the hype, with the only problem being that it went to OT and Reverse Live didn’t fucking have one. The battle was absolutely excellent up until that part, but shit happens. 9DM obviously had a clean sweep in the finals due to that, but I and the few people I talked to thought Evil edged it in 3. The reason for that is due to Evil having some great lines about 9D’s concepts and then 9D using them directly after he was called on it. I felt Evil got a bit more direct and personal and that’s what I look for. 9DM is still probably my favorite person to watch live and I really hope he ends up battling Dizazter very soon as their clash of styles is great.
I don’t think Shock wound up coming so Sun Tzu, a recently accepted try out battler, decided to do an impromptu battle against this kid whose name I forgot. I didn’t watch this battle because I was in the bathroom taking a massive shit, but I heard that the random kid did horribly and freestyled a bunch of garbage.
Vokab’s opponent wound up not being able to make due to border problems, so Vokab spazzed on ‘em, flawlessly delivering all 3 of his rounds and what I believe was a new addition regarding Manik’s situation. Watch out for that video to drop soon.
XT didn’t show up. Engineer didn’t make it. Overall, despite having like 17 no shows, the event was really fun and all of the battles which wound up taking place are worth watching.
so let me get this straight,
a bunch of the battles wont be coming out?
Yeah, it sucks. Between the no shows and the fucked up footage there will only be like 5 videos coming out.
