Production:
Brainstorm 3′s superb production quality is completely unrivaled by it’s competition. The transition between each battle is seamless, which gives this battle DVD a certain fluidity that others don’t posess. The sound quality is also excellent. Another unique bonus is an on screen bracket for the final 16 emcees, complete with their name and picture. As far as production value is concerned, Brainstorm 3 is top notch.
In depth review after the jump!
Battle Quality:
The DVD begins by highlighting the sickest battles from the preliminary rounds which contain many gems. Notable performances include Bo-Rat outclassing both of his opponents, Bad Luk destroying Brainstorm 3′s only female entrant, and Mike Phenom’s first round against an unknown competitor. Presence Vs. Kahn is arguably the best battle of the prelims, which includes one of Presence’s best rounds ever.
The finals are packed full of entertaining battles such as Frankie Riptide Vs. Phenomenal, NoCanDo Vs. Franco and Bo-Rat Vs. Bad Luk. One downside to the event is the final battle being significantly weaker than the rest before it. Despite this minor detail, the overall quality of battles at Brainstorm 3 was great.
Navigation:
Navigation is made very easy on the DVD. You can immediately skip to the Prelims, Finals or Extras portions of the DVD.
Extras:
Performances by J-Live, The Lifesavas and Massive Monkees, the Seattle-based world champion break dancers. Also included is a highly entertaining blooper reel displaying the worst performances of the event.
Overall:
As outdated as Brainstorm 3 is, the battles are still very entertaining and definitely worth watching. The turntables are manned by DJ B-Mellow and DJ Scene, who do an excellent job of beat selection. Brainstorm is one of the better battle DVDs available right now and you can’t go wrong buying it.
