After boozing properly i now had the brutal task of judging the battles. first up was Young Nate VS XT which was a very solid opener. nate has clearly improved since the 9dm battle, and XT gets better every time i see him.

9DM VS illusion Z was VERY tough to judge but ultimately the decision came down to one key factor for me which will be elaborated upon once the footage is released. That being said, good fuckin lord what a battle. nonstop fire from both sides , and Im sure some will call the result a contraversial decision. the best individual line of the night came from that battle, and fuck it was great. beastly from both sides. wait to see that shit…
Franco VS ExI was an amazing rematch whtout a doubt. I knew to expect a high level but wow expectations were exceeded no doubt. Again the decision might be slightly contraversial to some. none the less both emcees came with it and looked like they developed a genuine temporary hatred for one another during the battle. nice work folks.

The performances were of course fresh. everybody murked shit per usual. sandpeople’s set was off the fuckin chain to close the night followed by one of the best cyphers ever assembled. portland is a dope city. met a cute lil beez at the show too.

A lot of details are a bit hazy still as i did drink a fuckin lot. We left the Hawthorne to the after party where we got more sauced. and staleMate battle Mr. MR in one of the most hilarious battles of all time. big ups to Portland for bein a dope city. it was an ill new years. I learned quite a few things. most importantly from FLO that ”If a girl has a vagina… she’s already a 3″

The battles started once everyone arrived and there was a great atmosphere in the air, I gotta say, out of all the grind time west coast locations I think this one has been my favorite so far, props to illmac for setting it up.

XT vs Young Nate was the first battle of the night and it kicked it off with a bang. Young Nate upped his game a lot since his last showing and had a much better delivery and better lines as well. His group “money gang” for sure calmed down since last time, didn’t want this to turn into a mook vs serius battle haha. XT came really dope and I’m just going to say that he is really underrated and a lot of his lines are slept on HARD.

Next was Illusion Z vs 9DM.
This was the best battle of the night, back to back fire rounds by both emcee’s and some extremely creative material here. Illusion Z keeps stepping up his game and 9DM is solid. There was a pretty controversial decision made in this battle but it doesn’t take away that this was one of the most kneck and kneck battles since Dumbfoundead/Tantrum.

Franco vs Ex-I This was a pretty legendary re-match and it did not disappoint. Franco is one of the most interesting battlers in the world and I will say he takes an awesome approach to acappella battles. Ex-I came super aggressive at franco and had my favorite verse of the entire night. This will also be a very controversial battle in terms of the outcome, but nevertheless the outcome of the battles at the end of the day shouldn’t be what weighs if a battle was good or not, its more about how an emcee came across.

The show afterwards was extremely good, Animal Planet had a dope ass set, Okwerdz murked a couple of tracks that aren’t even released yet, Delmon broke the house down as usual, Thesaurus did some new material that everyone was down with, Bo-rat had an excellent set as usual and did one of his tracks with iLLmaculate which was dope and the sandpeople were a perfect way to the end the night.

Overall I had a great time in Portland and another successful grind time battle down!

The Battle between Illusion-z and I was sick. Can’t wait to see the footage (I actually have it in my pocket right now but don’t have a Mini DV camera to watch it).

With the Ex I vs Franco I didn’t get to pay much attention too because I just got done battlin’ and was drinkin’ and talkin’ to people. I did hear a sick ass Ex I line though but I’ll let you watch it for yourself.

After that performances got goin’. Very sick, well orchestrated. Sand People started off the New Year with a bang. Then a bunch of us closed it out with a Freestyle Session (Hopin’ the video will surface). After that we hit Dast’s house to kick it. One of the battles that didn’t happen at the show popped off in his kitchen. David R vs MR MR. This shit was a drunken hilarious battle to say the least. Not to mention I reached in my pocket and found 3/4ths of a blunt. No idea when I rolled it or how I got it. But you can figure out the rest. Passed out and kept it movin’. Great Event. Can’t wait for Cali.
