Description:

Any fan of freestyle rap battles should already be aware of the Fresh Coast, the dominant battle force which has racked up more wins in major events than any other region. With multiple Scribble Jam victories and dozens of strong showings all over the nation, this collective of battle technicians has proven themselves to be the top gunners in this highly competitive circuit.

Comprised of battle legends like NoCanDo, TheSaurus, Illmaculate, Okwerdz, Franco, Bo-Rat, Tantrum and more, it’s hard to argue that the Fresh Coast shouldn’t be hailed as the greatest group of battlers in the world.

The Fresh Coast DVD documents the history of these battle veterans, their thoughts on each of their fellow MC’s battle styles, their personal favorite battles, how they wound up with such a dominant scene, the coasts they’ve influenced as well as the biters and clones they’ve spawned.

Sorry for the delay folks, but better late than never right? The last installments of my stage battle tributes can be found here and here.

Reef The Lost Cauze Vs. Icon [download]
Beat 2: The Notorious B.I.G. – Who Shot Ya [download]

A nice little battle from the Mic Control event in New York which took place a few years back. Reef The Lost Cauze is an absolute beast in battles and in music. Icon has a few decent lines, but is outclassed by Reef.

What a fucking awesome battle. Everybody Knows is a monster, but I think Okwerdz definitely took this. Major props to both, and super huge props to Okwerdz for landing Unsigned Hype in this month’s issue of The Source.

Damn, Real Deal’s first round is fucking vicious. He’s definitely one of the hardest hitters in the Mid West division, which is gaining more and more steam with every event they throw. Tut is also really solid in this match. Major props to both of these guys.

I personally thought Real Deal took it in 3 pretty easily although Tut came with it as well.  Sick battle.

Check the full post for bonus battles from both Tut and Real Deal.

Diabolic – 60 Bars

On February - 12 - 2009ADD COMMENTS

Diabolic is an absolute mad man. Known for many years on the New York battle circuit for his competitive matches against Immortal Technique, Mecca and others, he got his first large promotional push after destroying his guest verse on the Immortal Technique song, Dance With The Devil.

I’ve said for years this guy has the best writtens out of anybody and this video definitely backs that opinion up. With a steady buzz on the indie hip-hop circuit already, his debut album “Liar & A Thief” is sure to open many people’s ears to true lyricism.

Weekly Battle Drop 2

On February - 11 - 20092 COMMENTS

Welcome to another installment of the Weekly Battle Drop. If you missed it, be sure to check the last entry since it was the real deal. I apologize for the delay, but due to me keeping busy playing with my own balls, I haven’t had the time to update.

Alius Vs. E.V.I.L.
Round 1: [download]
Round 2: [download]
Beat 1: Mobb Deep – Burn [download]
Beat 2: Mobb Deep – Keep It Thoro [download]

This battle took place in the finals of the Mic Wars event in Rhode Island. Alius is a legend in the battle circuit for his classic matches against Sage Francis, Jin, Esoteric and many, many others. E.V.I.L. is relatively unknown and his battle career was most likely confined to his local scene.

I miss solid beat battles. :-(

The rest of the battles after the break.
