MC Battle Blog

An insightful guide to the entertaining world of freestyle rap battles.

Yessss… finally. Everybody Knows is the shit and Blacksmith is constantly improving. This was a really entertaining battle. I really wish it would’ve happened on in the crowd and not on stage, but shit happens. A few minor slip-ups from both people, but still a really fun watch and great performances overall from both. I think it would’ve wound up being a closer match if Blacksmith projected his voice better with a stronger delivery. Blacksmith has a lot of really unique concepts in his lines and they’re written really well, something I’d also say in a description about E.K. This was a really great matchup and it definitely delivered.

Look out for new footage of E.K. in his recent GTNW performances which will drop soon, including a 1-on-1 promo against 9DM and two 2-on-2 battles with myself against Vokab & Mic Phenom and Reverse Live & Mic Phenom. Unfortunately his footage against Pariah from the Bridge City Battle 4 was recorded with distorted audio and isn’t salvageable. I am really, really bummed about this because E.K. undoubtedly had his best performance ever, didn’t slip up once, and improved his delivery and emotion in his style by about 10 notches. He freestyled his OT (something he planned, not a slipup, by planned I don’t mean it was all premed) and it came off very well. Pariah also did very well and put on his usual solid performance.

If anyone who was at the event recorded the footage on their personal cameras or cell phones or anything, please contact myself, Illmac or Avocado immediately.

Massacre Of The Bay Announced

On February - 1 - 2010

Since completing the Battle Of The Bay 5 saga on New Years Eve, Lush One, the Don Bossalino Conglomerato El Pacino himself has been busy working on his next new GTWC mega project. Unfortunately somehow the best name they could come up with was Massacre Of The Bay, but fortunately it is shaping up to be a completely ridiculous event. With incredibly high standards for the selection process of MC’s, this is looking like it will be one of the best Grind Time events ever.

so this is according to lush: day 1 (platnum edition), day 2 mob pt.2

to be part of day 1 required credentials:
to even be considered for a battle on this day u need:

1.100,000+ views on a battle.
2.5 wins or major battle accomplishment(scribble,smack, wrc,brainstorm)
3.best record in league, or top rapper in division
4.be able to rap minumum 2 minute rounds.

^^only 10 battles day 1

this event is aiming to pull the most buzz/views from one event , thats ever happened, alot of sponsers and celebrities in the building.
to be part of day 2
-anyone is able to apply, but the best will be chozen for 15 battles.

day 1 will be 15-20 $ at the door.
day 2 will be free and a gift to the community.

day 2 is expecting to have way morrrre people and is a big event that i will also particapate in along with day 1 after i crucify aresnol,
so day 2 is gonna be a HUGE event with by far the biggest crowd we ever had there will be an estimated 700 people at moss wood park.

day 1 will be located in the traditional place where it always has!!! expectin 650 at least. -Dizaster

Dizaster Vs. Monk McNasty

On January - 29 - 2010

Awesome short notice battle between Dizaster & Monk McNasty. Dizaster perfectly weaves in and out of freestyle and written which is a ridiculous combo, reminiscent of old Iron Solomon battles. Monk also came very sick in this and put up a great fight against Diz who is one of the best in the Grind Time circuit.

Kid Twist Vs. Fresco (GTWC)

Kid Twist (KOTD) and Fresco (GTMW) meet at BOTB5 in Oakland California for this heated battle. This was thought to be a mirror match due to their many similarities (both are incredibly buff hardcore death rappers with imposing physical traits), but I think this battle goes on to highlight just how different they are. Fresco is a much more technical and polished rapper, while Twist is much better at the setup + punch approach with more jokes thrown within.

With that said, both are incredibly talented writers and definitely top tier in each of their divisions. This was an excellent battle and both of these guys deserve tons of props for their performances.

Grind Time West Coast’s Tryout Reel

On February - 11 - 2009

With Grind Time having so many less than satisfactory battles these days, new rules have been implemented to require mandatory tryouts for new battlers as well as as the wacker ones who were already in Grind Time. The GTWC’s tryouts ended up with some sick battles. Check it out, it’s definitely worth the watch as someday you might see these guys taking on the vets in this video.

Okwerdz Vs. Jaze Juce

On January - 3 - 2009

Why can't we be friends? Oh why can't we be friends?

By now most of you have seen the culmination of the online feud between Cali battle veteran Okwerdz and New York representative Jaze Juce. Currently there is hot debate over who won the match, as well as a plethora of other retarded issues from disgruntled battle fans. Many of you are still curious as to what caused the beef in the first place, the tension between the competitors in person, and of course the thoughts of each emcee now that the battle is over.

View the footage as well as Okwerdz’ post-battle thoughts after the jump.
